A child is a gift on loan from God. He is not yours to possess . . . but a sacred trust for you to guard and protect.
A child is yours for a few short years to love and nurture . . . to channel into the areas of his God-given gifts.
A child should know you love him unconditionally for who he is . . . not for what he can do.
A child should hear loving compliments and encouragement many times a day . . . never putting down his smallest effort.
A child should know that discipline is a loving thing . . . and never an outlet of uncontrolled anger.
A child should learn to sing, to play . . . and pray.
A child should learn the pleasures of giving . . . without the thought of getting.
A child should learn honesty, humility and loving tolerance . . . by the genuine example of his parents.
A child should see in his mother’s example joy in her basic duties . . . showing self-control and discipline throughout the good times and the hard times.
A child should be taught that it’s all right to stumble . . . it’s all right to fail . . . and it’s all right to cry.
A child should be allowed to be . . . a child . . . and know that childhood is the happiest time of his or her life. By Mary Jean Brown
CLOSING THOUGHTS BY DEAN BROWN
Mary Jean and I have had the joy of raising our own son, Billy Dean Brown. God’s Word has been our guide. We are so thankful that Billy and his wife Christy have a Christian home and are raising our two grandchildren; Alyssa Noel and Cameron Dean in Franklin, Tennessee.
Billy and Christy have traveled on mission trips to the children’s orphanages of Ukraine, along with a team of medical doctors, to present the Gospel and minister to the needs of the abandoned children of Europe. On their second trip they returned to Ukraine heading their own team to minister to the “street children” of Kiev. You can go to Billy’s website to view his video productions: www.evidentialproductions.com
May we all be encouraged with the Word of God as we raise and pray for our families.
“Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older he will remain upon it”.
Proverbs 22:6 LIVING BIBLE
“And now a word to you parents. Don’t Keep on scolding and nagging your children, Making them angry and resentful. Rather, bring them up with the loving discipline the Lord himself approves, with suggestions and godly advice”. Ephesians 6:4 LIVING BIBLE
Written for the National American Mother’s Convention when Mary Jean Brown
received the title
